🐕 Safety Analysis — Dogs

Contains theobromine and caffeine, which dogs cannot efficiently metabolize. Theobromine accumulates in the bloodstream, leading to toxicity affecting the heart and nervous system. Dark and baking chocolates have higher concentrations than milk chocolate.

Symptoms to Watch For

Vomiting, diarrhea, rapid breathing, increased heart rate, tremors, seizures, death in severe cases.

🐱 Safety Analysis — Cats

Contains theobromine, which cats metabolize even slower than dogs. While cats are less likely to ingest chocolate due to their inability to taste sweetness, exposure can lead to severe toxicity.

Symptoms to Watch For

Vomiting, diarrhea, hyperactivity, increased heart rate, tremors, seizures.

Additional Notes

The darker the chocolate, the more dangerous. Theobromine at 20mg per kg of body weight may cause mild symptoms; 40-50mg/kg can cause heart-related symptoms.
